Rating Match: Grand Designs Ties with Natures Great Events

Grand Designs, a consumer show for design and innovation, has achieved impressive ratings alongside Nature’s Great Events: both shows averaged 4 million viewers during the 9:00 pm hour on Wednesday, March 4th.

Grand Designs and Nature’s Great Events, both of which are narrated by David Attenborough, averaged an 18 per cent audience share, according to the unofficial stats following the show. Grand Designs was watched by an additional 255,000 viewers on the catch-up service an hour later. Wednesday evening’s installment of Nature’s Great Events examined the phenomenon of ocean tides. Both shows outdid a repeat of police drama Taggart, which drew a close 3.9 million viewers and achieved a 17 per cent share during the 9:00 pm hour.

The next highest in the rating ranks within the correlating time slot was the second-to-last episode of the new six-part drama series Minder. The programme averaged 1.2 million viewers and a 5 per cent share.

The first episode of a new three-part factual series, called Building the Olympic Dream, averaged 600,000 viewers and gained a 3 per cent share during the 9:00 pm hour. The show examines preparations for the popular sporting event, demonstrating everything from venue designs to sources of materials used for building the specific venues.

School drama Waterloo Road averaged 4.3 million viewers and an 18 per cent share during the 8:00 pm hour. The programme’s number of viewers and share pull matched that of The Bill.

Relocation, Relocation also achieved impressive ratings, averaging 3.1 million viewers and a 13 per cent share. What’s more, the programme is now up 300,000 viewers and one share point since its previous installment, whilst an additional 140,000 watched the show on the available catch-up service.

The second part of natural history series, Orangutan Diary, averaged 1.7 million viewers and an 8 per cent share, also during the 8:00 pm hour. In addition, Ice Road Truckers raked in 1.3 million viewers over the 8:00 pm hour, with a 6 per cent share.
